Rally the Gentlemen 2012

I don’t make resolutions for the new year, I make changes. This year I’m going to bring back the gentleman. Today, society is fraught with every genre of man possible: Emo, Hipster, Punk, Goth, Bro, Dude, Gangsta and the list goes on and on…

The real issue with these monikers and genres is they can be tailored to whomever claims to belong to that crowd.

A gentleman, however is not a custom piece clothing, although gentlemen are known to wear tailored garments.

No, a gentleman according to dictionary.com is:

gen·tle·man   [jen-tl-muhn]  Show IPA noun, plural -men.

1. a man  of good family, breeding, or social position.

2. (used as a polite term) a man: Do you know that gentlemanover there?

3. gentlemen, (used as a form of address): Gentlemen, pleasecome this way.

4. a civilized, educated, sensitive, or well-mannered man: Hebehaved like a true gentleman.

I’d like to call your attention to #4  a civilized, educated, sensitive, or well-mannered man.  I’m going to format this page to accept posts and contributions from gentlemen who believe in the cause, not for notoriety but because it is the right thing to do.

So, please check back regularly for updates and do the gentlemanly thing all the time. I’m drafting a Code of Conduct and a Mantra.

  1. I have a query. Are ladies offered a voice amongst these gentlemen? That is to say, to comment on what entitles one to wear the label accurately (as opposed to those who adopt it as a pseudonym of sorts, calling themselves gentlemen while in fact, behaving as douchebags)?

    • Megen,

Thank you for the comment. I would say absolutely. Ladies and Gentlemen need to be held accountable and be the best people they can be.
