I feel heartbroken, embarrassed, dejected, betrayed, ignored and the list goes on of the adjectives I can use to describe how I’m feeling right now.
There are hundreds of thousands of Americans on furlough, unpaid leave, laid-off or otherwise hanging in the balance because our government decided that their policies and appearances were more important than the public they swore to protect and serve.
I’ve had conversations about this shutdown with a couple of different people. The most odd, was a British officer, I’m currently working with. He thinks Obamacare is a great idea, as do most of my counterparts who come from countries with socialized medicine.
I can’t help but seeing this as a way to make people less and less accountable for their own actions. I don’t see how those of us who are responsible enough to ensure we have health care should care or be bothered with also providing it for those who aren’t planning and making it a priority to have it. I was told by another American, that this is really going to help out old people who can’t afford health care for their terminal illnesses.
I don’t care.
I haven’t made the choices I’ve made, the financial decisions I’ve made, given up creature comforts to be 29 and debt-free with outstanding credit…to ensure old people have health care. I don’t work stupid long hours, seven days a week because I care about the starving kids of people who keep having them out of ignorance. I do, however do those things for a family I hope to have one day. I do those things so my future children will be provided for. My children, borne in wedlock, to two loving parents who have calculated to cost of providing a suitable standard of living for them and are committed to providing that.
I am willing to do anything, go anywhere and be what I need to be, to ensure I maintain a respectable standing in society and continue striving to be above reproach.
In this case of governmental shutdown, there is a distinct lack of understanding of why this is happening. GOP is pointing fingers and the Dems, then it breaks down into individuals pointing fingers at individuals.
I believe it boils down to saving face: the Reps are embarrassed the couldn’t stop Obamacare and are trying to make it look like they are trying to fix it, despite not being able to. The Dems, I think, are starting to see that Obamacare is kind of a sham and they are very happy they don’t need to use it, but won’t double back to fix it, nor will they delay it so maybe the next administration can fix it.
I feel that this whole thing is a coming down from the White House under the guise of: ‘Obamacare is going to fix our health care problems’ i.e. “This is the best thing for everyone!” Yet, the other side of the coin…is Americans not getting paid and therefore are not being taken care of, by the government while they fight about postponing something that is supposed to be good for Americans.
No. Absolutely not.
I feel that people who agree with Obamacare are mostly nitwits who refuse to see that this is as much of a sham as the social security system. ‘Put money in this giant pot and you’ll get a pension from the government when your X amount of years.’ A pot that very well might be empty when those of us who are young and viable, who are funding this debacle reach the golden age to reap our investment. I see Obamacare ending in a similar fashion. We’re going to dump money into this while we are young, to help out the old people who are battling terminal diseases now….If we told this generation of olden people who didn’t plan ahead…”Yup…you didn’t make your life a priority…you’re a fool to think the ENTIRE country will.” Instead we start pulling money into a pot for ourselves…and then we start looking forward with this money instead of back…we MIGHT be able to subsidize some of the pain and suffering of ourselves when we are old.
Now we have hundreds of thousands of people out of work because we can’t compromise on this…Get your act together, government. Do what’s right by way of the majority. We, as a nation, are too hung-up on what the obnoxious minority wants.
