Good Monday. I’ve been neglecting this series for a couple of reasons: I’m going through some pretty good introspection right now and my public is shifting right now.
adjective. common – open – national – general – communal – overt
noun. audience – people – house – community
Our public is the WHO; around us in our daily lives. Our public for the most part shifts and morphs based on our routines.
Our coworkers are our public, coffee shop employees where we stop every morning, our bowling team, anyone we come into constant contact with that aren’t quite friends, though friends can be part of your public, they typically fall into a Family category.
Public is important because we can learn a lot from them if we pay attention and we can learn a lot about ourselves by looking at who pops up in our public.
We can also learn a lot about people around us by observing other people’s publics. Typically a person’s public will be a reflection of who they are or who they want to be.
People who are into fitness will be more inclined to surround themselves with fit people who are involved in a more active lifestyle. People who might be more into staying inside and living a more sedate lifestyle will usually have a public that reflects that. They might have a better relationship with their mailman or UPS route driver if they prefer to stay in. Where someone with an active lifestyle will be recognized by a gym employee, barista, morning runners.
A good thing to remember about your public is that they can overlap with other spheres depending on how involved you become with your public. I would encourage you to get to know some of the people in your public.
Your public is made up of the same spheres your life is made of, they have the some people, problems, aspirations and dreams, you do. The more people we have on our side during this journey of life, the better we’ll be.
We’re all going through something, sometime with someone – somewhere. See your public as a reflection of you. If you’re having a good day…help you public have a good day. If you’re having a bad day…uplift your public, because odds are their day isn’t so hot either.
